Museum of the Future shuts its doors as Dubai landmark plans new visitor experiences
The revamped attraction is expected to reopen in early 2027
DUBAI – One of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks has closed to visitors as the Museum of the Future prepares for a major overhaul of its exhibitions.
The attraction’s existing exhibits made their final bow on Tuesday, September 1, with tickets no longer available beyond that date. New experiences are being developed for unveiling in the first quarter of 2027, marking five years since the museum opened.
The revamp follows more than 1,000 ideas and suggestions submitted from around the world. Museum officials say the project will introduce new experiences, narratives and a refreshed identity, with a focus on the scientific, technological and societal transformations shaping humanity’s future.
New experiences
The new installations are being designed to give visitors more interactive ways to explore both the opportunities and challenges expected to shape the coming decades. Further details about the additions are expected to be announced in the coming months.
The museum’s existing exhibitions had featured immersive experiences across several floors, including potential futures linked to outer space resource development, ecosystems, bioengineering, health and wellbeing.
Another floor focused on near-future technologies designed to tackle major challenges in areas including healthcare, water, food, transport and energy.
Final attractions
The museum also has a dedicated children’s floor, where younger visitors can take on challenges designed to encourage them to think about the future and become “future heroes”.
Before the closure, tickets were priced at Dh169 online, while children under four and people of determination were eligible for free entry. The attraction was open daily from 9.30am to 8.30pm.
The overhaul is expected to be completed before February 22, 2027, the fifth anniversary of the Museum of the Future’s opening.
